When you think about moving, you might think about spending money...in many cases, a whole lot of money. Whether you are buying a home or plunking down the necessary deposits to rent an apartment, you have probably spent plenty already, and you might be anticipating spending more when hiring movers and otherwise preparing to move to another home. However, what you might not realize is that there are actually ways that you can make money during your move. Even though this might not fully make up for everything that you have to spend, it can help you recoup some costs and can cause your move to be a little less of a financial burden.

1. Have a Yard Sale

There are so many benefits to having a yard sale before you move. First of all, you may want to start out your new life in your new home without all of your old junk. Secondly, you can reduce your moving costs by reducing the amount of "stuff" that you lug with you to your new home. Thirdly, you may be able to get more money for some of your old, unwanted stuff than you think. You can advertise a traditional yard sale a week or so beforehand in the local newspaper and on any online classified sites that might be popular in your area, or you can use online "yard sale" groups on social media pages to sell your stuff. Either way, it's a nice way to get your hands on some cash for items that you wouldn't want to take with you to your new home anyway.

2. Sell Your Moving Supplies

This will have to wait until after you arrive at your new home, of course, but one option is to sell all of your moving supplies once you are finished with them. So many people break down their moving boxes and toss them into the recycling bin after arriving at their new homes, but moving supplies can be costly. Sell them for about half of what you paid for them, and you'll be able to recoup some of your costs while offering someone else a great deal.

3. Donate

Okay, donating shouldn't really be considered a way of making money, but it can be a good idea nonetheless. If you aren't able to get rid of all of the stuff that you don't want to take with you, consider donating to a local charity and asking for a tax deduction slip. Then, you can catch a little bit of a break at tax time. Contact a business, such as Movers 201 Inc, for more information.
